Black Lacquer is a luxurious niche fragrance from the Tom Ford Private Blend collection, created by perfumer Guillaume Flavigny and introduced in 2024. The composition belongs to the oriental woody fragrance family and is distinguished by its deep, dark, and highly expressive character. It is a unisex perfume suitable for both men and women; however, due to its rich smoky, resinous, and woody facets, it is often perceived as a more strict and charismatic scent, especially striking when it unfolds on men.
The composition opens with an unusual and contrasting accord.
The top notes feature an ink accord, vinyl, black pepper, and dark rum. This combination creates a bold and slightly provocative opening: the spicy sharpness of pepper and the warm alcoholic nuance of rum intertwine with the unusual tones of ink and vinyl, giving the impression of a dense, almost “lacquered” fragrance. The opening feels intense, modern, and immediately captivating.
Heart notes
In the heart of the fragrance, a rich and contrasting composition develops. Here you can sense Makassar ebony wood, elemi, apricot, and peony. The woody note of ebony adds depth with a subtle leathery nuance, while elemi introduces a fresh resinous touch. Apricot brings a soft fruity sweetness that blends harmoniously with the darker floral tone of peony. As a result, the heart of the fragrance becomes more complex, velvety, and expressive.
Base & dry-down
